According to, Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, director of both the field hospital and the Hue City Central Hospital, the majority of cases involved elderly people suffering from severe underlying health conditions.

Dr. Hiep said the 600-bed field hospital No. 14, which has a capacity to treat COVID-19 patients in a critical condition, was first put into operation on August 24.

The opening of the site marks the first hospital specifically for COVID-19 treatment to open in the city, with the site providing help for all three kinds of COVID-19 patients, including those with mild, medium, or serious illnesses.

At present, the field hospital has treated a total of 300 infected people, including 100 critical cases who are being supported by ventilators, three cases receiving continuous dialysis, and one case undergoing ECMO intervention.

As of the morning of September 7, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded a total of more than 259,000 COVID-19 cases, including 10,685 deaths.
