19-8 Hospital planning to become leading medical institution

Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Dang Hong Duc had a working session with leaders, doctors and workers of the 19-8 Hospital and its Cardiology Institute, on March 3 in Hanoi.

According to reports presented at the working session, besides giving medical services to public security officers, enlistees and local residents, the 19-8 Hospital provides annual health check-ups for nearly 2,000 senior officials and nearly 12,000 public security officers working in specialized departments under the Ministry of Public Security.

The hospital regularly deploys medical teams to take care of the health of delegates at conferences and workshops organized by the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi, participates in domestic and international search and rescue operations, sends its medical workers to United Nations peacekeeping missions, and joins disaster prevention and epidemic response efforts.

In order to further develop it as a leading general hospital in the public security health system, the 19-8 Hospital has planned to excel in a number of specialized medical fields such as thoracic and vascular surgery, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery, trauma and orthopedic surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology and organ transplantation.

After listening to reports from the hospital’s leaders on the hospital development orientations as well as proposals and recommendations on its development for the coming period, delegates discussed and answers several questions of how to improve the effectiveness and quality of the hospital’s operation.

Overview of the working session.

Addressing the working session, Deputy Minister Dang Hong Duc underscored that the overarching development goal of the 19-8 Hospital is to become a high- level specialized general hospital and a leading institution among hospitals nationwide.

He also stressed that the Cardiology Institute under the 19-8 Hospital should take the lead in building and developing into a premier cardiology institute of Vietnam with a strong reputation domestically, regionally and globally.

Regarding the hospital’s development orientations, the Deputy Minister requested the hospital to study and draft a project to establish an Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Institute, attract and recruit highly qualified doctors and medical experts to work at the hospital and the Cardiology Institute. He suggested that the hospital leadership develop appropriate mechanisms and policy frameworks to recruit and promote high-quality personnel in accordance with regulations.

He also emphasized the importance of improving the quality of health services and patient care, while proactively accelerating projects on the procurement of modern medical equipment and facilities to effectively advance its medical examination and treatment.
