2017 Youth Volunteer Campaign launched

PSNews-The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organized a ceremony to launch the 2017 Youth Volunteer Campaign themed "Vietnamese Youth joining hands to build new style rural and civilized urban areas" in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.

The ceremony was graced with the participation of Ms. Truong Thi Mai, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization, leaders of various relevant agencies and 5,000 youth union members, pupils and students.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the 2017 voluntary campaign will give their priorities to poor localities with special difficulties in coastal areas and islands; island outposts of Vietnam. The campaign focuses on organizing on-the-spot volunteer activities, to encourage social forces to join so as to meet the need of each locality.

The 2017 campaign aims to build 50 new bridges to link rural roads, 500 bridges to facilitate people’s travel; repair 500km of rural roads, build at least 72km of new rural road; build 150 new civilized streets (lanes, alleys) with the bright - green - clean - beautiful – safe criteria; offer training courses and transfer scientific and technological advances to 60,000 rural young people; build and repair at least 300 houses of gratitude for policy families and people with meritorious services to the revolution; offer free checkups, treatment and medicines for 500,000 people; build and upgrade 1,000 children’s playgrounds.

At the launching ceremony, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union donated 70 savings books and supported the building of 70 houses of gratitude for former youth volunteers. The committee also offered more than VND 3.5 billion to Dak Lak province to construct rural roads and bridges, transport and houses of gratitude.

Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai pointed out that in order to attract more young volunteers, the campaign must be organized in a widespread, concurrent and diversified manner, and combined between long-term and short-term activities. Additionally, Youth Union organizations at various levels should coordinate with international volunteer organizations to promote volunteer campaigns.

Appreciating the theme of the 2017 Campaign initiated by the Central Committee, Ms. Truong Thi Mai emphasized that to achieve good results, the Campaign Steering Committee and young volunteers should determine and select the contents in accordance to their strengths and with the requirements of the building of new style rural and civilized urban areas.

On the same day, the delegation led by Ms. Truong Thi Mai also paid a visit to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Le Thi Be (98 years old, resident of Cuor Dang commune, Cu M'gar district); participated in a ceremony to break ground for rural roads in Cuor Dang commune; presented 20 scholarships to poor studious students; 20 bicycles, 50 gifts to poor students and 10 gifts to village elders and leaders in Cuor Dang commune, Cu M'gar district.
