The meeting aimed to release the outcomes of the task performance of the Public Security Forces in 2016, and the forces’ key tasks in 2017.
At the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Danh Cong, Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security briefed on the situation and results of the public security work in 2016; Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Toan, Deputy Director of the Department of Political Work under the General Department of Politics briefed on the results of the implementation of the “All People Protecting National Security” movement.

According to reports, the Public Security Forces have consistently followed directions of the Party the State and the Government, well performed their functions as an advisor to the Party and State on national security and social order and safety, and coordinate closely with ministries, branches and localities in protecting national security and social order and safety. They have also taken the lead in preventing, detecting and effectively fighting hostile forces’ sabotage activities and crimes of various kinds.
During the year, the Public Security Forces have ensured absolute safety for Party and State leaders, international delegations and all important political, cultural and social events held in the country, particularly the 12th National Party Congress, the elections of deputies to the 14th National Assembly (NA) and People's Councils at all levels, the reports revealed.
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Danh Cong emphasized, the Ministry of Public Security Forces has well performed its function of State management on social order and security with good outcomes while the criminal verdict execution and judicial assistance has seen more positive developments, and all detention facilities under the ministry’s management have been kept secure and safe.
According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Toan, the “All People Protecting National Security'' movement has been implemented comprehensively and effectively by the Public Security Forces. All public security agencies and units have paid due attention to the Party work and the building of the Public Security Forces.
As a result, some 148,592 individuals and groups have been honored by the Party, the State, the Ministry of Public Security and localities for their outstanding achievements.
274 officers and soldiers of the People’s Public Security Forces have sacrificed themselves while executing their duties.
Speaking at the event, Minister To Lam asked all public security agencies and units to bring into play the fruitful results, and to continue to strictly implement the directions of the Party, the Government, the National Assembly and the Ministry of Public security in order to ensure national security and social order.
The Public Security Forces should improve the efficiency of international cooperation, especially with neighboring countries, Minister To Lam added.
The Minister of Public Security also thanked the authorities and the press agencies for their close and effective collaboration with public security agencies and units in popularizing information about the Public Security Forces’ task performance. He then asked the press agencies to continue to fight hostile forces’ sabotage activities and wrong information, as well as to back the Public Security Forces in detecting and combating negative behaviors and corruption.
The media was also urged to provide valuable information crime and social evils to the Public Security Forces for the sake of a peaceful, secure, safe and civilized society.
