96-year-old artist brightens up Hanoi’s alley

PSNews - Visiting the Ao Dai alley ( Duc Thang ward, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi City) these days, one would feel getting lost in a wonderland as he/she sees hundreds of colorful unique murals.

Along the 400-meter alley, there are many colorful paintings on the walls vividly featuring daily-life activities, children playing, environmental protection, and so on, which brightens up the whole ally.

The author of these unique murals is Cao Tri Thinh (aged 96, residing at hamlet 6, Duc Thang ward). To create a beautiful “jacket” for the ally, the old artist has used his own money to buy materials and tools, and then spent much time and energy working carefully on each mural.

The paintings by artist Thinh reflect the life from different angles. They also feature his love of the country and Uncle Ho’s great sayings or depict a family dinner. Visitors to the ally can also see some slogans calling for environmental protection or children protection on the wall.

Cao Lan Anh - a niece of artist Thinh, said: "My grandfather is very fond of painting. Many of his paintings feature the teachings of Uncle Ho, to encourage people to follow Uncle Ho's teachings. Recently, he has been ill and has not able to paint murals. Some years ago, he went out every day to paint and repaint murals on the ally’s wall no matter of weather conditions."

A neighbor of artist Thinh named Do Thi Nghien also said: "All people, especially children, love these murals. The children living here often play together in the alley after school, see the paintings and gradually learn by heart all poems, slogans and Uncle Ho’s teachings drawn on the wall."

In the hustling and bustling everyday life, the silent but meaningful contributions to the community of artist Thinh are respectable and appreciated. They not only beautify the life, but also teach good lessons to young generations about the love for life and for the country.
