Present plan indicates that, the International Day of Yoga will be marked in over 35 provinces around the country. Schedule of these celebrations is enclosed, which will cover prominent venues such as Fansipan in Lao Cai, Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi and other venues. The participation of over ten thousand people is expected in these events.

Our first “curtain raiser” event this year under the theme “One world, One health”, will be held in collaboration with Thong Nhat Park Runner Club, on 11 June 2023 at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi. The 9th IDY will be held on Sunday, 18 June 2023 at the Martyrs Monument adjacent to Hoan Kiem Lake.

Yoga is about five-thousand-year-old tradition from ancient India that combines physical, mental and spiritual pursuits to a harmony between the body and the mind and with the nature.  In recognition of its health benefits for the world population, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21 June every year to be marked as the International Day of Yoga (IDY), following a call by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in September 2014.

Vietnam was a co-sponsor of the UN General Assembly resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga and has been an important partner of India to promote and celebrate the International Day of Yoga.  The immense popularity of Yoga in Vietnam demonstrates a sound awareness about benefits of practicing yoga and its role for deep cultural and people-to-people connection between our two countries.
