The district of Van Ho is considered an area with complex drug-related crime as most drug criminals operating in the locality are armed when transporting big batches of drugs from the other side of the border to Vietnam and then to the country’s towns and cities for sale.

In 2017 only, the District Police Office of Van Ho detected and investigated 100 drug-related crimes, arresting 161 involved people and seizing 58 kg of heroin, some 25,000 pills of synthetic drugs, 100 grams of crystalline drugs, 28 motor cycles, 4 cars and 3 guns. Nguyen Quoc Viet participated in the investigation into most cases and made great contributions to the successes of the district police.

Nguyen Quoc Viet has been working at the district police office since Van Ho district was first formed. He held various positions, such as a Deputy-Chief and then Chief of the Drug Investigation Team, and Deputy Chief of the Van Ho District Office. In every working post, he has proved to be a clever, fearless and determined policeman who has never made concession to difficulties or criminals even when working in one of the most dangerous drug-related area of Vietnam.

Besides, Major Nguyen Quoc Viet has actively advised leaders of the unit to develop and implement the combat plans to ensure safety of the operational teams, and improve the efficiency of the operation.

Major Nguyen Quoc Viet has participated in investigating various special drug-related cases in Son La. He recalled the largest-ever drug-related case in Son La that he took part in. This special case was coded 279-LL, involving armed groups of criminals in the border area. During the case, Major Colonel Nguyen Quoc Viet and his partners exchanged fire with the criminals for a long time, killing and capturing 25 criminals, as well as seizing an amount of heroin equivalent to some 170 kg and 36,000 pills of synthetic drugs.

Viet also earns good respect and sentiment from all of his police peers and subordinates.

Thanks to his outstanding performances and achievements, Major Nguyen Quoc Viet was awarded a “Feat of Arms” Order of third class by the State President. Viet was among the 10 Outstanding Faces of the Vietnam Police in 2016. He has also been named as the “Outstanding Soldier at Grassroots Level” for many years and earned the title of “Outstanding Soldier of the Whole Police Force” in 2016.
