Amendment to Public Security Law discussed at NA Committee on Defense and Security

PSNews - The National Assembly’s Committee on National Defense and Security on May 3 held its 8th plenary meeting to verify the revised Law on People’s Public Security Forces.

General Do Ba Ty, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, chaired the event.

The conference also saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the NA, Chairman of the NA’s Committee on National Defense and Security; Senior Lieutenant General To Lam Member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security, Head of the Drafting Board of the Law on People’s Public Security Forces.

As authorized by the Prime Minister, Senior Minister To Lam, Head of the Drafting Board briefed participants at the event on the Government's Statement on the amendment to the Law on People’s Public Security Forces.

The Statement reads, implementing the 2018 law and ordinance program, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has studied and drafted the amended Law on People’s Public Security Forces. 

The promulgation of the law is now urgent and important, contributing to completing the legal basis for the functions, duties and authorities of the People’s Public Security Forces in the state management of security and order as well as fight against crime and other legal offences; to streamline the apparatus of the People’s Public Security Forces in an appropriate, synchronous, elite, effective and efficient manner, which serves as a basis for readjustment and rearrangement of forces.

Speaking at the event, General Do Ba Ty and Senior Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet emphasized the significance of the law, and that the amendment will directly impact on the organization and operation of the People’s Public Security Forces. Therefore, it is necessary to closely follow the Constitution and agree with the legal system. 

They also recommended that the Drafting Board should acknowledge, consider and add good ideas and opinions at the conference to the draft, and quickly complete it to submit to the National Assembly for further consideration at the upcoming 5th session.
