APCCA 41 officially opens in Hanoi

 The Opening Ceremony of the 41st Asia-Pacific Conference of Prison Management Officers - Vietnam 2023 (APCCA 41) took place on the morning of November 13, in Hanoi with the opening speech made by Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Nguyen Van Long.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long stated that the management and education of prisoners in Vietnam is carried out according to the principle of  and in compliance with Vietnam’s Constitution and laws, which reflect socialist humanity, respect for humanity, dignity, rights and legitimate interests of prisoners while combining serious punishment and education in the process of correcting prisoners.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long hopes that delegates attending the conference would actively exchange experience, share information and propose feasible solutions to issues so that the prison management sector of each country can improve the efficiency and quality of prison management in accordance with the practical situation and characteristics of the country. 

The prime goal of the prison is to educate inmates, helping them execute their sentences return home, soon reintegrate in the community and become good citizens after being released, contributing to reducing the crime rate, creating a healthy social environment for the development of the country.

In his opening speech, Lieutenant General Le Minh Hung said, as the theme of APCCA 41 is "Creating human values, trust and solidarity in prison work", this year’s APCCA edition calls on member countries to to discuss and find more effective approaches for correctional forces of member countries to efficiently carry out inmate corrections programs.

APCCA 41 takes place from November 12 – 16 in Hanoi and Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. The Conference's agenda includes 06 meetings, 05 thematic sessions and sidelines activities, such as field trips to 02 prisons in Vietnam (Quang Ninh prison and Thanh Xuan prison, Hanoi). 

In addition, the Organizing Committee also organizes several tours for delegates and guests to a number of historical places and landscapes in Hanoi and Quang Ninh.
