ARLEMP, sponsored by the Australian Federal Police, initiated in March, 2005, with a view to building capacity of law enforcement agencies in Asia for tackling non-traditional security issues and controlling transnational crimes.

Over the past 14 years, 49 training courses have been held with the participation of over 1,000 law enforcement officers from various regional countries.

The course offers the participants chance to share their experience and tighten the relations between the police forces.

Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Le Duc Tuyen, Vice Head of the Office of the Police Investigation Authority of the Ministry of Public Security, highlighted that the situation of transnational crimes in the region and world has witnessed complicating developments. Transnational criminals have expanded their activities on a global scale.

Transnational criminal organizations take advantage of weakened international regulations, border control and civil freedom to cooperate with one another in conducting criminal activities.

Senior Colonel Tuyen emphasized that regional law enforcement agencies should take a step ahead of the criminal organizations. The 50th ARLEMP, themed “Exchanging information on transnational crime prevention and combat”, is an opportunity for police forces of Asia – Pacific countries to improve their professional expertise and knowledge and exchange information and experience. Via the course, they can promote relations with each other, contributing to facilitating cooperation among regional law enforcement forces, controlling crimes and ensuring security and order in the region, Senior Colonel Le Duc Tuyen said.
