Bac Giang hotspot confirms 61 out of 91 local infections over 12 hours

As many as 91 further domestic COVID-19 infections, and one imported case were confirmed by the Ministry of Health over the past 12 hours to 6:00 am on June 16.

The 91 cases were recorded domestically, including Bac Giang (61), Ho Chi Minh City (19), Bac Ninh (9) and Ha Tinh (2).

The cases in the northern Bac Giang province and its neighbor Bac Ninh are mostly linked to clusters at their industrial parks.

Among 19 cases in HCM City, 13 are F1 contacts, 5 cases are related to the Christian congregation cluster, and 1 case is under epidemiological investigation.

The two cases in the central province of Ha Tinh had contact with infected COVID-19 patients.

One day earlier, Vietnam recorded a total of 398 in two major cities and 5 provinces, with the biggest hotspot of Bac Giang reporting 235 cases.

The number of recoveries rose to 4,543 after a further 303 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospital on June 15. The number of fatalities now stands at 61.

So far, over 1,648,000 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, mainly frontline workers in the COVID-19 fight, including healthcare workers. Of these, more than 63,630 have received the prescribed two doses.

A further 95,421 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on June 15 alone in 41  provinces and cities throughout the nation.

The country has to date documented 8,087 locally-transmitted cases in 40 cities and provinces since the new wave hit the nation in late April.
