Banks collaborates with armed forces to fight money counterfeiting crimes

PSNews - The Department for Fiscal, Monetary, Investment Security (General Department of Security, Ministry of Public Security) on October 25 signed a tri-party coordination mechanism on preventing money counterfeiting crimes with the Issue and Vault Department of the Vietnam State Bank and the Drug-Related Crime Prevention and Combat Department under the Border Guard Command.

Over the past years, the situation of the money counterfeiting crimes has become more complicated in Vietnam, especially along the borderline between Vietnam and China.

Counterfeit Vietnamese currency, which is made in China with higher quality and more sophisticated technique and transported across the shared border into Vietnam, is harder to be distinguished with the naked eyes. So only officers at the border gate can have function devices and expertise to identify fake money. Due to big profits from the production, transportation and trade of counterfeit money, the crime has risen in terms of both number and complexity.

As an agency directly responsible for the protection of the Vietnamese currency, over the past years, the Vietnam State Bank has paid much attention to prevention and fight against criminal activities related to counterfeit money.

With the effective collaboration of the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defense and other relevant agencies, the State Bank has obtained a number of significant achievements in the work.

However, in the current complicated context of fake money and in order to improve the efficiency of the fight against crimes relating to counterfeit money, the functional forces in the country should further promote cooperation.

The signing of the agreement on coordination regulations between the State Bank, and units of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Major General Nguyen Khac Thanh, deputy head of the General Department of Security, asserted that monetary protection is a core part of the economic security, of which prevention and fight against money counterfeiting activities has been considered central.

"For many years, the General Department of Security and the police force at the central and local levels have deployed many measures and special projects to fight the money counterfeiting crime. The coordination mechanism will serve as a basis for the three units to better cooperate in the fight against money counterfeiting crimes," Major General Nguyen Khac Thanh said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Dao Minh Tu, proposed that, in the coming time, subordinate units of the two ministries and State Bank of Vietnam should strictly implement the regulations and further concretize the contents and forms of coordination between the parties in the fight against counterfeit crimes by crafting specific action programs.
