The remains of five soldiers were found at Xa Tho mountain in Ham Thuan Bac district and these soldiers were believed to have fallen while fighting in the resistance struggle against the US. The remains of the other four soldiers were discovered in the communes of Thuan Minh, Ham Can and Ham Thanh in Ham Thuan Nam district. None of the martyrs’ remains have been identified yet.
Many fierce battles took place in Binh Thuan province during the resistance struggles against French colonialists and American imperialists. A number of officials and soldiers from Binh Thuan and other localities across the country bravely fought against enemies and laid down their lives in defending the region.
Colonel Pham Van Long from the Binh Thuan provincial Military Command said the remains of more than 9,000 soldiers have been collected and reburied at the provincial martyrs’ cemetery since Liberation Day, however, the remains of more than 1,000 martyrs are still yet to be found.
