Brave young policeman honored

Nguyen Cao Cuong, Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Youth Union, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, on June 6 visited and inquired after Phan Duc Manh, a soldier of the Mobile Police Office under the Provincial Police of Dong Nai, who was injured and treated at the infirmary of the provincial police.

Phan Duc Manh is among 400 outstanding youths who have been honored by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union this year with the title “Excellent Youths in Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings”.

On April 11, a patrol team of the provincial police detected a group of some 100 teenagers with 60 motorcycles who were participating in an illegal motor race.

As the policemen ordered them to stop, Nguyen Hoang Khanh, 21, resident of District 8, HCM City, directly hit policeman Phan Duc Manh. Manh, who was 21 years old at Dong Nai’s mobile police force.

The policeman was seriously injured and then taken to Cho Ray Hospital.

After hours of surgery, the doctors reported that his lower leg muscles were not recoverable. As a result, he had his right thigh amputated.
