The Municipal Police Department of Can Tho has recently discovered several posts on social networks, inciting local people to participate in demonstrations with the aim of causing social disturbances in the locality.

The police of Can Tho urged people to put on the alert, be calm, not believe in distorted information of bad elements, and avoid being tricked and lured into acts of law violation, such as damaging assets of enterprises, the State and people.

The Can Tho Police also provided a hotline number of 0693.672.125 to receive people’s reports on those who incite people to participate in illegal gatherings and demonstrations, negatively affecting local security and order. Whistleblowers shall be kept secret, safely protected and rewarded in line with the laws.

Earlier, the Department of Education and Communications of the Provincial Party Committee of Can Tho had publically explained the complex situations in other localities resulting from some misunderstanding of the draft Law on Special Administrative and Economic Zone (Van Don - Bac Van Phong - Phu Quoc) discussed at the 5th session of the 14th National Assembly.

However, over the past few days, some political opportunists have still spread one-sided, biased information, causing misunderstanding among local people.

Via social networks, the political opportunists took advantages of patriotism to call on people to participate in illegal gatherings and demonstrations, causing traffic jams. Some extremists disturbed local security and order and damage public assets, causing huge economic damages and especially seriously affecting the image of the country in the eyes of international tourists and investors. Their actions ran contrary to the efforts and resolve of the Vietnamese State and people to build a peaceful, democratic and civilized country.
