China, Vietnam beef up cooperation on drug prevention

In the buildup to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26), A ceremony to destroy drugs took place in Pingxiang city, Guangxi, China with the participation of representatives of the Lang Son Provincial Police, Vietnam.

109kg of heroin seized by the Chinese police in the recent past was destroyed in front of participating functional forces. The large quantity of drugs was seized thanks to the close coordination between the Lang Son Provincial Police and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Police.

After destroying 109kg of drugs, the Lang Son Provincial Police and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Police had a meeting to discuss measures to promote cross border cooperation on drug prevention.

At the dialogue, the two sides briefed each other on the regional drug crime situation of each side and other complex issues as well as sought effective cooperation measures.

Since the beginning of 2017, the Lang Son Provincial Police have investigated over 220 cases relating to drug crimes; arrested 336 suspects; seized 86kg of heroin; 52kg of synthetic narcotics and other objects.

The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Police also discovered hundreds of cases, seized about 58kg of heroin. The two sides exchanged dozens of suspects.

These results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the communications hotline, and close cooperation between the two sides in fighting drug crimes in border and border gate areas.
