Combating drug-related crimes in border areas

Situations of drug trafficking through Vietnam-China border in the first 9 months of 2016 witnessed complicated developments, according to 389 Direction Board of Lang Son.

Lang Son is known to be a complicated area of drug-related crimes in Northeastern area and Vietnam-China border.

Drug traffickers in collusion with foreign criminals to illegally smuggle narcotics from Vietnam to China and vice versa through Lang Son province.

However, Public Security and Border Guard forces of Lang Son in the first 9 months of 2016 conducted cooperation to detect and investigate various major drug rings in the province, preventing a huge amount of drugs from infiltrating into Vietnam.

One recent achievement of Lang Son Police on Drug-related Crimes was the arrest of Nguyen Thi Lam, 41. The suspect, who is said to be a weak link in transnational drug trafficking rings, was arrested while carrying heroin covered in fruit’s bags on September 6th.

Another typical case was investigated earlier. Hua Van Khen, 37, trafficked 30 bags of heroin from Dak Lak to Lang Son by coach. He was immediately arrested after got off the vehicle.

Lang Son is considered a complicated transshipment area of drug, said Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Hanh, Head of Lang Son Police on Drug-related Crimes.

Methamphetamine is commonly infiltrated into domestic market for consumption through border gates in northern and northeastern provinces. Other kinds of drugs such as heroin, marijuana are trafficked from Laos to Northwestern provinces and to China.

In recent times, major transnational and interprovincial drug cases have been detected and investigated, including investigation of drug ring headed by Doan Tuan Duong and Tran Ba Duc.

In addition to Public Security forces, Lang Son Border Guards have made great contributions to successful control of drug-related crimes.

The achievements gained by both forces contributed to better security and social order situation in Lang Son border areas.
