Control over the human trafficking discussed at MM5

Under the authority of the Minister of Public Security, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, heading a Vietnamese delegation, attended the 5th Inter-Ministerial Meeting of COMMIT member countries (IMM5) via videoconferencing, on the morning of December 16, 2022.

The agenda consisted of seven sessions, of which the Vietnamese delegation chaired Session 1 with the content "Updated results achieved in the implementation of the COMMIT Action Plan in the fourth phase(SPA IV) for the years 2020 - 2021" and Session 4 with the content "Achieving the goals of COMMIT SPA by an interdisciplinary approach".

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung emphasized that human trafficking had been seen as an important issue, related to human security and human rights, and it was also a key content at the recent 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. 

Over the past years, all agencies, sectors and the masses participated in preventing and combating human trafficking though human trafficking still remains a complex issue in Vietnam, causing serious direct consequences to victims as well as to socio-economic development of the country.

Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung stated that, Vietnam reached various criteria of the COMMIT Action Plan phase 4,  and made remarkable achievements, in recent years.

In the field of crime prevention the Government of Vietnam has been implicating programs for economic, cultural and social development, creating jobs, and raising living standards for people in border areas, deep-lying, remote areas and areas with difficult economic conditions, step by step cleaning up the area, denying opportunities for crime to arise.

Meanwhile, delegates delivered presentations at the meeting, saying the country, despite being heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, still tried a lot to realize the SPA IV action plan and they achieved certain goals in improving the infrastructure. policy regulation, international cooperation, information protection and support for victims and work to combat emerging crimes of human trafficking. 

Countries also agreed to recognize emerging trends in human trafficking in recent years, including online human trafficking crimes, forced labor fraud, and potential victims. members of society are no longer within the traditional scope as before.
