Counter Narcotics Police Department asked to ensure financial sources and facilities for anti-drug fight

PSNews - Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security, on September 15 worked with the Counter Narcotics Police Department. The working session aimed to review its finance, logistics and technology work in the 2016 - 2020 period.

According to Major General Nguyen Van Vien, Director of the Counter Narcotics Police Department, under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the counter-narcotics police force nationwide has received sufficient funds and logistics to effectively fight against drug-related crimes over the past time, contributing to ensuring national security and social order, serving the country's socio-economic development.

Regarding the finance, logistics and technology work in the 2016-2020 period and the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021 - 2025 period, Major General Nguyen Van Vien said that the Counter Narcotics Police Department will effectively spend the funds disbursed by the MPS to the department on the fight against illicit drugs in accordance with the laws.

At the meeting, representatives of the department’s sub-units discussed difficulties and problems related to the finance and logistics work as well as gave ideas on plans to modernize facilities, equipment and combat gears for the counter-narcotics police force, meeting the requirements of its assigned tasks in the new situation.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son asked the department to strictly manage the effectively use the equipment and combat gears provided by the MPS.

The Deputy Minister also spoke highly of the ideas and proposals made by the delegates at the meeting. He promised that the MPS’s leadership will consider those recommendations in the context of the MPS’s budget and issue specific instructions on allocating financial sources and facilities for the counter-narcotics police force in the coming time.

From 2016 to the end of the first half of 2020, the counter-narcotics police force, in coordination with other functional forces, detected 103,077 drug-related cases, arrested 158,226 people involved, and seized 4,878kg of heroin, 1,070kg of opium, 2,826kg of marijuana of all kinds, 10,664kg and 4,812,713 pills of synthetic drugs and many related exhibits. In particular, the police force successfully captured more than 90% of cases of drug trafficking from other country into Vietnam and vice versa.
