Criminal Police Department reviews fight against prostitution

The Department of Criminal Police under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a conference to review 5 years implementing the ministry’s plan on prostitution prevention and combat on November 26 in Khanh Hoa.

Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the event. The conference also saw the presence of Senior Colonel Pham Van Tam, Vice Director of the Criminal Police Department, representatives from relevant departments under the MPS and the 63 Municipal/Provincial Police Departments across the country.

According to reports delivered by the Criminal Police Department, the fight against prostitution has achieved positive results over the past 5 years even though the prostitution situation still sees complicated developments as prostitutes often have new methods and tricks.

The Criminal Police Department directly or in coordination with local police forces detected and investigated 43 cases, prosecuted 52 persons involved and imposed administrative fines on 238 others while the local police forces investigated 2,546 cases, prosecuted 2,966 offenders and fined 11,346 others for dealing with prostitution.

Specially, the police of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Ca Mau, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho and Ba Ria - Vung Tau have eradicated major prostitution rings.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang applauded the efforts and achievements in the fight against prostitution gained by the Department of Criminal Police and local-level criminal police force over the past 5 years.

He asked the Department and relevant units to advise local Party committees and authorities to mobilize the strength of the political system in the fight against prostitution in accordance with the Government’s program, further coordinate with the procuracy agencies and court at all levels to promptly investigate and prosecute major prostitution cases of great public concern.

They should take measures to fight online prostitution, prevent and control sex trade on social networks, and increase cooperation with police forces of other nations in handling prostitution rings involving foreigners in Vietnam and trans-border human trafficking for prostitution.

At the conference, the MPS and the Department of Criminal Police honored various teams and individuals for their outstanding achievements in the fight against prostitution.
