Dak Lak province urged to promote building of new rural model

PSNews – A working mission of the Central Steering Committee for the National Target Programs led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security on November 27 worked with the Dak Lak Provincial People Committee on building new rural areas in the province.

According to the report of the Dak Lak provincial Fatherland Front Committee, in 2017, the implementation of the national target program on building new rural areas in the province has been further strengthened. A majority of the population believes, agrees and actively responds to the movement of "All Dak Lak people joining hands to build new rural areas."

The provincial People's Committee drew up a set of criteria for new rural communes in the province in the period of 2017-2020 and a plan for implementing the national target program on building new rural areas in the period of 2016-2020.

Development models of value chain linking the new rural building program with agricultural restructuring started to bring about positive results.

In addition to the results, Dak Lak province still has some limitations in new rural development programs, such as a high rate of small household businesses barring it from building a large-scale agricultural production, as well as reduced prices of its main agricultural products cutting down local people’s incomes; as a result, it is hard to mobilize resources from the people.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son emphasized that Dak Lak province has many advantages for agricultural development, especially hi-tech agriculture.

He pointed out the province’s drawbacks, saying that the reforms of cooperative models were so slow; the province’s economy mainly depends on micro-scale or household businesses; and the security situation was fluid in some rural areas.

In order to achieve the target of building 39 new rural communes meeting 12.6 criteria on average, Dak Lak province should continue to invest in essential infrastructural projects in needy communes, stimulate production, and renovate the traditional thinking of doing business to raise incomes of the rural population.

At the same time, localities of the province should focus on ensuring security and order, creating a favorable environment for socio-economic development.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son also urged the Dak Lak Provincial Police Department to improve the capacity of the communal police force to meet the requirements of tasks in the current context.
