Delegation of US Embassy in Vietnam works with Bac Lieu Police

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security assigned its Department of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the US Embassy in Vietnam to organize field trips to and work with municipal/provincial police departments in the Mekong Delta, with the aim of exchanging experience in fighting against transnational crimes.

A delegation of the US Embassy in Vietnam in collaboration with the Public Security Department of Foreign Affairs under the Ministry of Public Security visited and worked with the Bac Lieu Provincial Police Department on the transnational crime prevention cooperation program in Mekong Delta region.

At the meeting, Mr. Jonathan Gandomi, Coordinator of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section, briefed delegates on the results of the 1st U.S.-Mekong Partnership Ministerial Meeting, which was held on September 11 under the co-chair of Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, and with the participation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and ASEAN General Secretary.

The report read, the 1st U.S.-Mekong Partnership Ministerial Meeting committed to expand the areas of cooperation, including economic connectivity; sustainable water, natural resources management, and environmental conservation and protection; non-traditional security, human resource development.   

The non-traditional security cooperation includes collaboration on emerging threats such as health security, capacity building and pandemic response, countering transnational crime, maintaining cyber security, and countering trafficking in persons, illicit drugs, and wildlife species.

On that basis, The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam assigned its Department of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the US Embassy in Vietnam to organize field trips to and work with municipal/provincial police departments in the Mekong Delta, with the aim of exchanging experience in fighting against transnational crimes in the framework of the transnational crime prevention cooperation program in the Mekong Delta region between two sides.

For his part, Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Han, Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu Provincial Police Department said that the criminal situation in the province is quite complicated. They are mainly criminal cases, as well as case related to drug trafficking, economic wrongdoings, environmental ofences in the province and neighboring provinces.

He hoped that, in the coming time, the Bac Lieu Provincial Police Department and specialized agencies of the United States will closely coordinate to effectively implement the contents of the signed cooperation program.
