Minister of Public Security General To Lam, on behalf of the drafting agency, presented a report on the draft law on identity at the ongoing sitting of the 15th National Assembly, on October 25.
Minister To Lam stated, the draft law had been carefully reviewed and revised regarding the rights and obligations of Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese people of unknown nationality living in Vietnam.
The draft law also has specific articles on the National Population Database and Identification Database, prohibited acts, regulations on collecting, updating, managing, sharing and exploiting information in the National Population Database as well as information in the Identification Database.
Additionally, the draft law regulates conditions, in which people of Vietnamese origin living in Vietnam but having unknown nationality are granted identity cards or identification certificates.
Concluding the discussion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong requested the General Secretary of the National Assembly to summarize deputies’ opinions on the draft law while the National Assembly Committee on National Defense and Security should also coordinate with involved agencies to draw up a report on the draft law to submit it to the National Assembly for further consideration as scheduled.
