Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen requests police departments to ensure security and safety at prisons and temporary detention centers

PSNews - Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen had working sessions with the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management and the Police Department of Temporary Detention and Community-based Corrections Management to review the two police departments’ work result, on February 12th, in Hanoi.

According to reports presented at the meeting, the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution, and Juvenile Reformatory Management ensured absolute security and safety at all facilities within its responsibility, in 2024.

Additionally, the department effectively implemented the amnesty policy, provided adequate healthcare services for inmates and maintained environmental protection standards in prisons.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen requested that the police department continue to proactively advise the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on the management of prisons, correctional institutions and juvenile reformatories, especially on mechanisms regarding criminal judgment execution and amnesty for inmates.

The Deputy Minister also requested the police department to attach greater importance to the work of inmate education and rehabilitation while developing good prison models.

Over the past year, the Police Department of Temporary Detention and Community-based Correction Management has taken synchronous measures to manage, supervise and carry out policies for detainees and community-based inmates.

In addition, the police department also proactively prevented, detected and handled all violations of detainees and inmates to ensure the security and safety of detention facilities.

Regarding key tasks in the coming period, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen requested that the Police Department of Temporary Detention and Community-Based Corrections Management enhance inspections and provide provincial-level police departments with guidance on detention and prison management.

The Deputy Minister also stressed that the department need to continue providing instructions on judicial assistance and security protection at local–level trials, as well as guidance on ensuring security and safety of evidence storage facilities.

Additionally, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen urged the police department to proactively instruct provincial-level police departments to take measures to manage and educate ex-prisoners during their community reintegration time.

Finally, the Deputy Minister requested the police department to strengthen international cooperation in the fields of temporary detention, custody, and community-based corrections.
