Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang chairs Vietnam-Australia security dialogue

PSNews-  Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security and Mr. Marc Ablong, Australian Deputy Minister of Home Affairs on December 2 co-chaired the first plenary session of the second Vietnam-Australia Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang stated that, over 46 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia, the relationship has been increasingly strengthened and developed in the fields of politics, economics, education, security and national defense.

The bilateral relations have really thrived since the two sides officially established the Vietnam - Australia Strategic Partnership in 2018.

The bilateral cooperation on security and law enforcement has been well maintained with practical outcomes, especially after the first Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue held in December 2018 in Canberra, Australia.

Based on the 10 signed cooperation documents on specialized fields, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the Australia’s Interior, Police, Security, Immigration and Border Protection agencies have implemented a large number of cooperation programs in sharing information, investigating drug-related crime, human trafficking, child abuse, economic crime, cyber-crime, illegal immigration.

The two sides have also expanded cooperation in personnel training, cyber-security and national security, and supported each other in organizing international conferences and at multilateral forums.

With the presence of the Liaison Office of the Australian Federal Police in Vietnam, over the past 20 years, the bilateral cooperation in police work has been flourishing, benefitingpolice units at all levels of the two countries.

Notably, after 15 years of implementation, the Asia Regional Law Enforcement Management Program (ARLEMP) has opened 50 training courses with the participation of over 1,000 regional law enforcement officers, including nearly 350 Vietnamese public security officers.

At the meeting, Australian Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Marc Ablong affirmed the significantoutcomes of the two sides’ implementation of the agreements and commitments of the First Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue , contributing to strengthening the Australian-Vietnam Strategic Partnership.

Mr. Marc Ablong highly appreciated the organization of the Second Vietnam-Australia Deputy-level Security Dialogue and believed that the related sessions will enable both sides to share information of mutual concern and work out solutions to further improve the cooperation between Australiaand Vietnam in general, the Australian law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in particular.

At the event, the two sides discussed topics related to cybersecurity and hi-tech crime, child abuse prevention and control, prevention of serious and organized transnational crimes, financial crime and financial information safety, immigration and immigration managementand regional security issues.
