Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang visits orphanage center in Republic of South Sudan

Within the framework of the working visit to UNMISS, the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang visited and presented gifts to children at the Sheikh Dafalla Quranic Academic Foundation Orphanage in the Capital Juba (South Sudan), on the morning of March 25, 2024 (local time).

The Sheikh Dafalla Quranic Academic Foundation Orphanage Orphanage Center is under the management of the Social Welfare Authority of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare of South Sudan.

The center currently has 166 children and teenagers (ages 3 - 27), including 110 children under 17 years old, 70% are orphans, 30% are children from poor families who cannot afford to care for them.

Director of the Orphanage Center Mohamad Ibrahim Abbas said, “The Center is facing lots of difficulties while the number of children is still increasing every day. The center's facilities and accommodations are downgraded, and the center often does not have enough food, running water and no electricity. Only 5 female volunteers and 6 male volunteers working at the center.”

Sharing difficulties with the center, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and the visiting Vietnamese delegation presented 1,000 notebooks, mats, mattresses, mosquito nets, and half a ton of rice and beans to the children at the center.

Gender Advisory Officer of the Police Women's Network of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Joy Adaku Nkuma expressed deep thanks to Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and the visiting delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, saying that the visit and gifts are valuable in both spiritual and material terms.

Ms. Joy Adaku Nkuma said she had learned a lot from the social activities of the visiting delegation from the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security, and wished to receive more support and assistance in the coming time.
