Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc attends the 90th INTERPOL General Assembly

Deputy Minister, Head of the Criminal Investigation Authority under the Ministry of Public Security of VietnamLieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc led a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to attend the 90th INTERPOL General Assembly in New Delhi, India, from October 18 to 21.

This INTERPOL General Assembly drew more than 700 delegates from 171 INTERPOL member countries and territories as well as INTERPOL observers and partners.

At the opening session, INTERPOL President Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi and INTERPOL Secretary General Jurgen Stock emphasized the need to strengthen close cooperation among INTERPOL member countries in the fight against transnational crimes and global security threats as criminal activities are likely to increase in the post-Covid-19 times.

On behalf of the host country, Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered a speech welcoming delegates to the meeting, and emphasized the important role of INTERPOL in coordinating and planning strategies to prevent and fight transnational and organized crime, making an important contribution to the process of building peace, stability and common prosperity in the world.

The 90th INTERPOL General Assembly comprehensively assessed global crime trends in 2022, evaluated the achieved results of global police cooperation in 2022, and drew up INTERPOL action plans, strategies and visions toward 2030. 

Accordingly, INTERPOL will implement a comprehensive program to research, evaluate and amend the Organization's legal regulations, produce solutions to manage and use human resources, and promote the signing of cooperation agreements with international and private organizations related to data processing, increase exploitation and use of INTERPOL database systems. 

At the 90th INTERPOL General Assembly, the General Secretariat officially launched a program to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of INTERPOL, which will last until the 91st INTERPOL General Assembly, to be expected to take place in Vienna, Austria, where INTERPOL was founded on September 7, 1923. 

This celebration program aims to affirm the recognition and influence of INTERPOL, raise awareness of all law enforcement agencies on the position and efficiency of INTERPOL through the INTERPOL offices in its member countries. 

The INTERPOL Secretariat will host many events in 2023 to celebrate INTERPOL's 100th founding anniversary.

The 90th INTERPOL General Assembly elected three positions on the INTERPOL Board of Directors, namely Vice President representing Europe and two Commissioners representing Africa.

*On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc had bilateral meetings with INTERPOL President Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi and INTERPOL Secretary General Jurgen Stock to discuss the results achieved in the cooperation on transnational crime prevention and control between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and INTERPOL over the years. At the same time, the two sides discussed and proposed orientations for cooperation between the two sides in the time to come, focusing on sharing criminal information, supporting each other in the process of investigating criminal cases, tracking and arresting fugitive criminals, supporting capacity building of officers from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

*The high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam also had bilateral meetings with delegation from the Australian Federal Police, the UK Crime Prevention and Control Agency and the Turkish Police.

*During its stay in India, the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam visited the Vietnamese Embassy in India.
