The Malaysian delegation was headed by Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman.
Highlighting good results of cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc stated, the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security and the the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia has still not commensurated with the potential and cooperation needs of the two sides due to a number of objective and subjective reasons.
Deputy Minister Ngoc affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam always wishes to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia via both bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, contributing to successfully realizing the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership for the 2021-2025 period.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc suggested, the two sides early organize the first meeting of the Deputy Ministerial-level Joint Working Group on Transnational Crime on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia (1973 - 2023) and step up the implementation of the agreement signed on October 1, 2015, between the Governments of the two countries on cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes.
The Vietnamese official also hoped that the two sides would gear up the negotiation process on an agreement on extradition, agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons and agreement on cooperation in combating human trafficking, thereby creating a favorable legal corridor for the two sides to join efforts in combating crime and solving problems related to citizens of the two countries.
Mr. Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman highly agreed with Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc’s suggestions, saying that the Malaysian side commits to closely coordinate with Vietnam in information exchange as well as fighting crime, illegal migration and terrorism while supporting Vietnam to host or co-host regional meetings on specific crime on a rotating basis.
