During the trip, the delegation held separate working sessions with leaders of companies operating Istanbul International Airport (Turkey), Incheon International Airport (Republic of Korea), Tianfu International Airport (Sichuan, China) and Changi International Airport (Singapore).

At the meetings, the hosts shared their experience in developing a master plan and building an airport to meet the Skytrax 5-star standards.

They advised the visiting delegation to phase the construction of the airport, adding that runways should meet the Code 4F standards, be capable of simultaneous takeoff and landing, as well as be able to serve the largest aircraft, satisfy the highest flight safety criteria, and maintain its operational efficiency and development potential for a long time.

The hosts also underlined that the airport master plan should include the development of an “Airport City” model to strengthen connectivity and generate non-aviation revenue.

They noted the importance of close coordination among stakeholders and supportive government policies in successful airport operations.

According to the experts, international airports should have a comprehensive set of criteria for all operating units, including customs, police and immigration authorities, while increasingly applying automation technologies such as self-service baggage drop-off systems and automated security screening lanes, to best serve passengers.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ngoc Lam and the delegation conducted on-site study tours in the international airports to gain comprehensive insights into the operation of sections as well as the overall airport.

The knowledge and experiences learnt from the visit by the delegation will serve the planning, development and future operation of Gia Binh International Airport in Vietnam.
