PSNews - A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long attended the 92nd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly taking place in Glasgow, Scotland from November 4th to November 7th.

The 92nd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly was attended by over 600 delegates from 190 member countries and territories as well as INTERPOL’s international observers and partners.

To effectively address global security issues and curb the rise of crimes for a safer world, the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly set forth four main strategies in the coming period, including maintaining effective operation of INTERPOL as a trustful global law enforcement hub capable of analyzing and exchanging criminal information; diversifying police operations through maximizing resources and improving professional expertise and strengthening cooperation with strategic partners; promoting and renovating police operations; and enhancing INTERPOL’s support to member countries, especially offering more access to member countries to utilize INTERPOL's database systems.

Notably, during the 92nd session, the INTERPOL General Assembly successfully elected Mr. Valdecy Urquiza, Director of International Cooperation for the Brazilian Federal Police and Vice-President for the Americas on INTERPOL’s Executive Committee, as Secretary General of INTERPOL for the 2025 – 2029 term.

On the sidelines of the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long had bilateral meetings with INTERPOL Executive Director of Police Services Stephen Kavanagh, UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police Reece Kershaw.

At the meetings, INTERPOL and partner countries agreed to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in exchanging information and hands-on experience in crime prevention and control, as well as jointly investigating and clearing complex criminal cases and arresting wanted fugitives.

Basically, senior officials of INTERPOL as well as the British and Australian police forces are committed to closely coordinating with the Vietnamese police force in preventing and combating transnational crime as well as training and building capacity of police officers.

In addition, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long also had meetings with the General Secretary of INTERPOL as well as head police delegates of Qatar, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Philippines.

Within the framework of the visit to the UK, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long also visited the Embassy of Vietnam in the UK.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long briefed the diplomats and staff on the domestic security and order situation, while being informed of the situation of the Vietnamese community in the UK.
