Deputy Minister Thanh attends 2017 Global Cities Summit

PSNews-Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security led a delegation of the MPS to attend the 2017 Global Cities Summit, organized in Dubai, UAE. 

The two-day visit (from March 7 to 9) has been made by the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security at the invitation of the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Global Cities and Executive Director of the World Council on City Data (WCCD).

The 2017 Summit, organized by Dubai municipal management Council in cooperation with WCCD, is the 8th event. It is participated in by various leaders of major cities throughout the world, international organizations, entrepreneurs as well as policy makers from many countries and relevant agencies under the UN.

This year’s Summit, themed “Cities on the Global Stages – Data as the Universal Language”, is concentrating on discussing the importance of standard city data and data-oriented leadership solutions as well as methods to apply standardized data to create a sustainable city model, and detect and minimize development risks.

Speaking at the Summit, Mr. Thanh, a founding member of the World Council on City Data, appreciated the efforts of WCCD for building the ISO 37.120 – the standard set for cities in the world.

The Summit has also provided an opportunity for many cities’ leaders and policy makers to share and exchange ideas, experiences and solutions to managing cities; and to boost relations and connections and cooperation between each other for more sustainable and comprehensive prosperity in the wake of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the advent of the Internet which has been fading away the concept of “border”.

The Vietnamese Vice Minister presented ideas on building indicators to ensure security, safety and welfare of a smart city in the world. He also shared experiences in applying the model of smart city in Vietnam.

”Building a smart city, we may encounter large challenges regarding security, safety and social welfare issues, so that urban managers should be aware of the issues and widely share information to well manage and ensure sustainable development of the smart city.
