Detention centers nationwide do good job in COVID-19 prevention

Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security on May 25 attended and delivered a speech at the meeting reviewing COVID-19 prevention and control of the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management.

At the meeting, representatives from the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management briefed the Deputy Minister and other delegates on the results of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control at the detention centers nationwide. 

Accordingly, under the directions of the Ministry of Public Security’s leadership, the department has instructed its sub-units to actively and timely takepreventive measures against the disease. It also establishedeight mobile medical teams ready to support detention centers in case of possible epidemic outbreaks.

The department's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has directed its sub-units to disinfect all their offices and detention facilities. They also granted more andlonger phone calls for detainees to communicate with their families as well asprovided goodmeals to increase inmates’ immunity against the virus.

Detention centers also arranged quarantine areas for new detainees and those who were discharged from hospitals while preparing medicines, protective equipment, foodstuffs, and necessities for possible pandemic outbreak scenarios.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son spoke highly of the efforts and achievements in COVID-19 prevention and control of the prison management police force over the past time.

In the face of complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son requested the department and its sub-units to continue taking preventive measures against the disease in order to protect good health for police officers, soldiers and detainees.
