Direct flights between Vietnam and Bali to soon open

PSNews - Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi has unveiled the information ahead of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his spouse's official visit to Vietnam on September 11-12 and attendance of the World Economic Forum 2018 on ASEAN in Hanoi.

Ambassador Ibnu Hadi also said that, over the past 2 years, he has been striving for the opening of direct flights between major Vietnamese cities and Indonesian ones.

So far, Vietjet Airlines has agreed to open direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Bali, the famous tourist island of Indonesia. Vietjet is expected to officially announce this news during the official visit to Vietnam of President Joko Widodo and his spouse.

Last December, Vietjet also launched daily two-way flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta.

Ambassador Ibnu Hadi affirmed that, the visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his spouse to Vietnam aims at strengthening the friendship and bilateral relations between the two countries. At the same time, President Joko Widodo will also attend the World Economic Forum 2018 on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN), to take place from September 11 to 13 with the theme of the summit: "ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

Vietnam and Indonesia established the strategic partnership in 2013. The two-way trade turnover in 2017 reached over 6.5 billion USD and stood at reached 4.7 billion USD in the first seven months of this year. Ambassador Ibnu Hadi stressed that after this visit, Vietnam and Indonesia will strive for a record of 10 billion USD of two-way trade turnover in the coming years.

As of June this year, Indonesia was the 5th largest among the ASEAN countries and the 30th largest among the 126 countries and territories worldwide investing in Vietnam. It runs 71 projects with total capital of 514 million USD.

The two sides also held 10 rounds of negotiations on the maritime demarcation of the EEZ, and signed a memorandum of understanding on fishery cooperation and maritime affairs in 2010.
