Dong Nai police busted large-scale fake gasoline ring

PSNews - The police of Dong Nai province on February 9 announced results of their investigation of a ring making and trading counterfeit fuel.

After the Dong Nai provincial police received reports from locals on low quality gasoline sold by several gas stations in the province, they launched a special police team to investigate the case.

Investigators later found that a number of companies specializing in trading and transporting petrol were newly established in Dong Nai, and their operations were expanded to other provinces.

These companies used large tankers to buy gasoline from foreigners at the international waters. The petrol was then mixed with chemicals and solvents to make poor-quality A95 gasoline.

The low-quality fuel was sold to gas stations across different provinces.

These petrol trade and shipment companies was well organized into a network of producing and distributing low-quality petrol. Each affiliate had specific assignment from buying the gasoline, mixing low quality A95 petrol, making fake documents of the product to trading and transporting it to gas stations.

According to the investigators, around one million liters of low-quality gasoline were being sold on the market each day. Since August 2020, the ring has sold over 200 million liters of fake and poor-quality gasoline in total on the market.

Under the direction of the Public Security Minister, the Dong Nai police collaborated with their colleagues in other southern provinces and professional agencies under the Ministry of Public Security to bust out the ring.

A large team of 500 police officers raided a series of gasoline stations in Ving Long, Long An, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City, and arrested suspects related to the ring.

Simultaneously, other police officers raided an islet in the middle on the Hau River and found people making low-quality fuel. At the scene, the suspects resisted fiercely. They even ran a large boat into the police canoe in order to escape from the islet in My Hoa commune, Binh Minh district, Vinh Long province. However, the police successfully arrested all the suspects.

The police seized two 2,500-ton tankers, five 400 to 1,000-ton vessels, six tankers, 2.68 million liters of gasoline, four barrels of chemicals, VND 100 billion in cash, and some documents and papers.

According to the police, the companies were involved in "smuggling", "producing and trading fake goods", "illegally trading in State budget-related invoices and receipts" as prescribed in Articles 188, 192 and 203 of the Penal Code.

The Dong Nai Provincial-level Criminal Investigation Police Agency issued a decision to prosecute the case, ordered an emergency arrest of 26 suspects. The decision and order then were approved by the Dong Nai Provincial People's Procuracy.

Currently, Dong Nai provincial police are further investigating the case.
