Dozens of inmates at An Diem Prison granted amnesty on National Reunification Anniversary

PSNews - The An Diem Prison managed by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), held a ceremony to announce the President’s 2025 amnesty decision, on the morning of May 1 in Quang Nam province.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen, Permanent Member of the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty and Head of the MPS Steering Committee for Amnesty, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the ceremony.

Under Decision No. 767/QD-CTN signed on April 29, 2025, by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a total of 90 inmates at the An Diem Prison were granted amnesty in 2025.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen, Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee Le Van Dung and Deputy Director of the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management Major General Pham Van Than presented the President’s amnesty decisions to the beneficiary inmates.

The President’s 2025 amnesty decision benefited 8,055 inmates and one with a temporarily suspended sentence.

In his address, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen emphasized that the amnesty reflects the clemency policy of the Party and State as well as the traditional humanity of the Vietnamese people towards the ex-offenders who have demonstrated their true remorse for their crimes, participate actively in self-correction programs, and serve their sentences in a good manner.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that the overall process of examining the inmates eligible for amnesty was carried out in careful, objective, transparent, fair and lawful manners.   

Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen encouraged the 90 amnesty beneficiary inmates to overcome challenges in the future, reintegrate successfully into society and become responsible, law-abiding citizens.

He also wished them to have a stable and happy life and resolutely stay away from crimes.

He also requested the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management and other relevant functional units to proactively review and propose amendments to current legal regulations on detention, contributing to ensuring consistency and clarity in the implementation of the Party’s clemency policies for well-behaved inmates.
