Drought-hit Ninh Thuan province gets 2,900 tonnes of relief rice

The People’s Committee of the southern central province of Ninh Thuan on November 12 started delivering over 2,900 tonnes of rice provided by the government to locals hit by the recent drought to help them overcome difficulties.

This is the third food aid that the Government has given to Ninh Thuan, targeting 16,054 households with 97,198 people in six local districts, said Dang Thi Phan, head of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

She added that each local will received 15kg each month in two months.

Thuan Nam district will receive the highest amount of rice with over 1,000 tonnes. All the food have been transported to all villages.

Chau Van Khoa, a local in Van Lam 3 village, Phuong Nam commune, Thuan Nam district, said that the aid is great relief to him and villagers as drought over the past year and flood in this crop have destroyed their rice farm, putting them to the risk of hunger.

According to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, drought from early this year damage more than 154 hectares of local farms, while interrupting the production in 9,600 hectares of crop and killed more than 3,200 cattle.
