Enhancing crime prevention and control international cooperation via INTERPOL mechanisms

PSNews - A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long paid working trips to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Italy from November 23 to 28, 2025.

From November 24 to 27, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the MPS delegation attended the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco. The meeting brought together more than 800 delegates from 179 INTERPOL member countries and its partners.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi and INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza affirmed that this year’s General Assembly was of special significance as it provided an opportunity for member states to engage in dialogue, discussing series of global security challenges, including efforts to identify and dismantle transnational organized crime networks and shut down cross-border scam centres.

Notably, during the meeting, INTERPOL member states elected Senior Advisor to the Director General of the French National Police Lucas Philippe as President of INTERPOL for the 2026–2029 term, as well as elected five positions to the INTERPOL Executive Committee for the 2026–2028 term, including the Vice President for Asia, one Delegate for Asia, one Delegate for Europe and two Delegates for Africa.

On the sidelines of the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long held bilateral meetings with Vice Minister of Public Security of China Xu Datong and Singaporean Police Commissioner Hoong Wee Teck to discuss approaches to further enhance cooperation in crime prevention and control.

During the meetings, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long highlighted the results of cooperation between Vietnamese Police Force and its Chinese and Singaporean counterparts in tackling cybercrime, online fraud, drug-related offences and human trafficking. 

He also proposed various measures to effectively implement bilateral and multilateral treaties and agreements on crime prevention between Vietnam and each of the two countries, and strengthen existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly INTERPOL, to enhance information exchange, coordination in criminal investigations and track and arrest wanted fugitives.

On November 27, in Italy, the MPS delegation had a working session with Director General for Interforce Coordination of the Italian National Police Annziato Perfect Varde.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on digital transformation and cooperation in combating crime, especially cybercrime and transnational crime.

The two sides also discussed orientations for future cooperation on delegation exchanges, criminal information sharing as well as creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese and Italian citizens living and working in each other’s country.

They also agreed to accelerate consultations on the draft protocol replacing the 2014 Agreement on Crime Prevention, and to move forward with the establishment of a Joint Committee to promote counter-crime cooperation, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-Italy Strategic Partnership.
