Environmental Police Department holds workshop on solid waste treatment

The Environmental Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, held a workshop on legal regulations on treatment of domestic solid waste.

Senior Colonel Le Thom, Vice Director of the Environmental Police Department chaired the event.

According to statistics, the total amount of domestic solid waste dumped nationwide is about 67,000 tons/day, with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi being the largest generators.

Delegates at the workshop discussed the real situation in solid waste treatment in recent years; possible risks for security posed from treatment of solid waste; shortcomings, difficulties and obstacles during implementing legal documents on solid waste treatment; coordination among agencies and units in the management of solid waste; recommendations on amending and crafting legal documents to meet the real need to treat solid waste in the coming time.

Senior Colonel Le Thom also suggested several applicable solutions, including completing legal regulations and management institutions, strengthening law enforcement capacity for solid waste treatment, promoting environmental protection education to raise the people’s awareness of environmental protection and domestic waste treatment.
