The Police Department for Countering Environmental Crimes (Environmental Police Department) organized a conference, on the afternoon of January 2, 2024, in Hanoi,to summarize the force’s work in 2023 and roll out its work planfor 2024. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended the event.
In 2023, the Environmental Police Department actively advised leaders of the Ministry of Public Security to direct the force to effectively implement the Project "Preventing and Combating Biodiversity Crime" by 2030 with a vision to 2050,and addressed pollution in large irrigation systems and river basins.
At the same time, the department guided in-charge local police to strengthen environmental protection activities, prevent biodiversity crime, and handle violations of laws on environment, natural resources and food safety.
Making remarks at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc requested that the department carefully study, analyze, evaluate and exactly forecast the biodiversity crime situation as well as criminal tricks and methods of violating laws on environment, natural resources and food safety, and advise higher-level authorities on approaches to deal with complicated situations and cases.
The department should serve as the "commander" role of the entire police force in preventing and combating environmental crimes and other violations of laws on environment, natural resources and food safety.
It should also foresee and identify new environmental issues, risks of environmental incidents, threats to the environment, climate change issues, natural disasters, epidemics that may arise in the country or come from outside.
