Environmental Police Department rolls out working plans

PSNews - The Department of Environmental Police under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) organized a conference on January 15 to roll out its working plans for 2019.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security attended and delivered a keynote speech at the event.

According to reports at the conference, the Environmental Police Department directed and guided the local police forces on environmental issues and implementation of the environmental laws, and responded to environmental incidents of public concern.

In particular, the environmental police force uncovered 24,642 cases environmental violation  involving 21,850 involved people and 3,425 organizations; mandated the investigation police agencies at various levels to prosecute 367 cases and 639 people involved; imposed administrative fines on 20,969 cases of environmental violation. 

Additionally, they also enhanced cooperation with relevant units in preventing and fighting against environmental cases and wrongdoings in the environment, natural resources and food safety.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong agreed with the key solutions proposed by the Environmental Police Department in 2019 and urged them to actively advise and recommend the Ministry to report to the Government various plans and solutions to proactively prevent and respond to crimes and violations of the Environmental Law (particularly issues related to deforestation, climate change, food hygiene and safety, treatment of industrial waste, import of wastes, water pollution, over exploitation of natural resources, minerals…).

Deputy Minister Vuong also asked the environmental police to enhance their efforts to prevent and fight environmental crimes and offences with a focus on effective preventive measures. He also asked the environmental police force to effectively implement the campaign to control crimes during the upcoming Tet holiday.
