European-Vietnamese documentary film festival to open in Hanoi

PSNews – During 10 days, from June 3-12, audience of Hanoi will have opportunity to watch a rich program of documentaries of Vietnam and other 10 european countries, with many of them have been awarded with prestigious prizes. Following the success of previous years, the 12th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival is expected to bring audiences unforgettable experiences.

The EU National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in collaboration with the the National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio held a press conference on May 30 to announce information about the 12th European-Vietnamese documentary film festival.

According to the organizing board, the 12th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival brings together documentaries from 10 countries: Austria, Belgium (Wallonia-Brussels), France, Italy, Germany, Israel, Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, UK and from Vietnam, as the host country.

Wilfried Eckstein, Director of Goethe Institute Hanoi, President of EUNIC – Vietnam shared that, the greatest plus of documentaries is their basis in research and their journalistic ethos. They look at social changes and what it means for the individual.

In particular, all the films were nominated for awards or received awards and prizes at prestigious film festivals like the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, the Locarno International Film Festival.

During 10 days, audience of Hanoi will have opportunity to watch a rich program of documentaries. This year’s selection covers a great diversity of themes: such as life of people leaving their countryside to climate change, from personal evolution due to social evolution, racism, or famous artists.

President of the National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio Nguyen Quang Tuan shared: “The films being showcased at this year’s festival are artworks of the highest aesthetic value, imbued with the culture of each participating country and displaying the trademark of each director. Following the success of previous years, the 12th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival will bring audiences unforgettable experiences through the documentary films, many of which are being premiered in Vietnam”.
