First Vietnam – Thailand high-level dialogue on Crime Prevention, Suppression and Security Issues

PSNews – As reported by the Public Security Newspaper, the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam Public Security Ministry led by Minister To Lam and representatives of the Royal Thai Police participated in the 1st Vietnam – Thailand high-level dialogue on crime prevention, suppression and security issues on December 20th.

The General Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, General Chakthip Chaijinda welcomed and highly valued the ongoing visit and the participation of the Vietnamese delegation in the 1st Vietnam - Thailand high-level dialogue on crime prevention, suppression and security issues.

He affirmed that the dialogue marked a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation between the two sides in preventing crimes.

On behalf of the visiting high-ranking delegation, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security spoke highly of the Royal Thai Police's hosting of such dialogue in Bangkok and thanked Mr. Chakthip Chaijinda for his warm reception.

At the dialogue, the two sides agreed that, based on the signed agreements, the cooperation between the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry and the Royal Thai Police has seen many practical outcomes over the past years, especially on experience sharing and personnel training.

Via Interpol cooperation, the two countries supported each other in exchanging and verifying crime information, catching wanted criminals, trans-national crimes and drug trafficking.

The two sides also discussed a number of issues relating to national security, social order and safety of each country, shared views on current challenges, such as new types of crimes, climate change and water and food security.

In the coming time, Vietnam and Thailand will continue visit and exchange meetings so as to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation on the areas of mutual concern. The two sides agreed to organize the dialogue annually.

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam and General Chakthip Chaijinda also signed a memorandum of understanding between the Vietnam Public Security Ministry and the Royal Thai Police.

After the dialogue, the two leaders co-chaired a press conference to announce the outcomes of the dialogue and answer questions from press agencies of Vietnam and Thailand.

On the same day, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam met with General Secretary of the Thai National Security Council Thawip Netnivom.
