PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on January 29 received and had talks with visiting Prosecutor General Moon Moo-il of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and his entourage.

At the talks, Minister Lam stated that the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam highly appreciated the RoK Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s initiatives in establishing the Asia-Pacific Information Coordination Centre for Combating Drug Crimes (APPIC) and the Anti-Drug Liaison Officials’ Meeting for International Cooperation (ADLOMICO). Through these mechanisms, national law enforcement agencies of regional countries, including those of Vietnam and the RoK, have exchanged professional information and coordinated to crack down on drug criminal networks, as well as supported each other with special-function equipment.

He affirmed that the signing of the MoU between the two sides will create a legal foundation for them to promote joint activities and bilateral cooperation in security and order as well as to open more cooperation opportunities for both sides.

General Lam asked the RoK side to help connect RoK manufacturers specializing in security-function equipment to Vietnamese firms so that they can cooperate in producing equipment and devices for crime prevention and combat. He hoped that the RoK side could support the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security with some specialized equipment.

The minister also urged the two sides to step up cooperation and maintain exchange of delegations at all levels to share information in preventing and combating drug crime, hi-tech crime, economic crime, corruption, and money laundering. 

Prosecutor General Moon Moo-il affirmed that the RoK Supreme Prosecutors’ Office is willing to partner with the Vietnamese ministry in the fields of mutual concern, especially in the fight against crime as well as citizen protection. He also vowed to do his best to promote the bilateral relations between the two countries and cooperation between the MPS of Vietnam and the RoK Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in the time to come. 

* On the same day, General To Lam received Ms. Deborah Paul, newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam.

    Congratulating to Debora Paul on her new position in Vietnam, Minister To Lam expressed his delight to positive results of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries since the diplomatic relations was established. He considered that the two countries now have an opportunity to promote bilateral ties and cooperation in various fields such as economics, trade, investment, national defense and security.

    Minister To Lam hoped that the newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador would make an important contribution to promoting relations between Vietnam and Canada as well as cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the Canadian law-enforcement agencies in the fields of mutual concern including drug-related crime, cybercrime, transnational crime and international terrorism.

    Sincerely thanking Minister To Lam for the warm reception, Ambassador Deborah Paul stated that the relationship between the two countries has developed and achieved various positive outcomes over the past time. She wished that the bilateral relations and cooperation would further grow in the time to come, and also believed that cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the Canadian law-enforcement agencies will be expanded, contributing to maintaining the security and social order of each country.
