Hanoi lake returns to life after mass fish deaths

More than 10 days after the mass fish death, with emergency measures of Hanoi’s authorities, the West Lake is slowly returning to normal life: Restaurants have reopened and people have returned for morning exercises around the biggest Hanoi’s lake.

According to chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, that the city is implementing measures to clean the West Lake’s water and to enhance the oxygen level of the surface water.

About 1,000 people, including the city’s police officers and 100 boats had collected about 200 tons of rotting fish in recent days.

The city’s police is in collaboration with the specialized agencies to investigatethe cause and the Hanoi's health department staff were dispatched to spray chemicals to sterilize areas around the lake.

The city subsequently also ordered authorized agencies to use RedOxy-3C, a substance manufactured in Germany to treat surface water and ground water.
