Hanoi organizes counter-terrorism drills

The Hanoi Municipal Police Department organized drills with the use of real forces to dismiss illegal demonstrations causing security and social order disturbances, attack terrorists and rescue hostages on September 13.

The event saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Phuong Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security; and representatives of relevant agencies and units, as well as Hanoi-based police and security academies under the Ministry of Public Security.

This comprehensive exercise aimed to drill in restoring peace from social disturbances led by extremists and reactionary subjects, and rescuing hostages taken by   terrorists. The exercise was participated in by some 5,000 military and police officers and soldiers from the Hanoi Municipal Police Department, the Hanoi Capital Military High Command as well as several residents of Cau Giay and Nam Tu Liem districts.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee Dao Duc Toan warmly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the individuals and teams participating in the exercise.

Lieutenant General Doan Duy Khuong, Director of Hanoi Municipal Police, highlighted that the number of illegal gatherings and demonstrations in Hanoi in particular, and in Vietnam in general, has increased and become more complex in recent years. Meanwhile, hostile and reactionary forces took advantage of civil disputes and shortcomings in socio-economic development to provoke people to participate in illegal demonstrations.

He lauded the efforts and good coordination of participating police units, particularly mobile police and participating military units as well as the support from the local authorities and people.
