Hanoi plans to vaccinate 95 percent of children aged 12 - 17.

Under a plan jointly designed by the city Departments of Health, Education and Training, and Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the children will get the shots right after the city receives the vaccines.

The scheme will be implemented in different phases with priority given to older ones. Currently, the city has 519,547 children aging from 12 to under 16 years old and 272,374 between the age of 16 to under 18 years old.

Adjustments in the vaccination time and priorities will be made depending on the developments of the pandemic in the city. Along with vaccination stations in hospitals and health care stations, mobile vaccination facilities will be set up at schools and localities.

According to a plan issued earlier by the Hanoi Municipal People Committee, the city's campaign is set to be carried out from Q4 this year, with over 95 percent of local children aged 12 - 17 fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of the first quarter of 2022.

Those aged 16 - 17 will get the shots first while the younger later. The inoculation progress will also depend on the vaccine supply and the local pandemic situation. Vaccines will be prioritised for the areas with new infections, high population density, many crowded places and schools.

To date, more than 10.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been allocated to Hanoi, of which 9.82 million doses were already administered to 6.07 million people aged 18 and above.
