“High-Position Shields” safeguarding the 14th National Party Congress

While the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is taking place at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, a silent force is present atop strategic high points surrounding the venue to safeguard it.

Officers and enlistees of Special Police Battalion No. 1, under the Mobile Police Command serve as “silent shields”, who are on watch around the clock to ensure absolute security and safety for the nation's most significant political event.

With their mission of providing maximum security measures to safeguard the National Convention Center and the neighborhoods, special police teams are deployed 24/7 at various key locations. From elevated positions, the teams closely monitor the entire space surrounding the event venue. They are supposed to early detect and effectively handle any possible security scenarios.

According to Captain Nguyen Trong Nam, an officer of Special Police Battalion No. 1, his team is tasked with sniping security violators and watching the space above the venue area. This is a highly specialized task requiring absolute precision, steadfast standing and the highest sense of responsibility so as to ensure the absolute safety of Party and State leaders as well as the attending delegates. Captain Nam shared that his three-man team are always at their posts well before the delegations arrive at the meeting area so that they cannot make any mistakes, even the smallest one.

Performing their duties at high altitudes during the 14th National Party Congress means these officers face greater challenges than the ground-based forces. The weather in Hanoi these days is unpredictable, with drizzling at times and cold winds, which affects their health and their weapons and equipment, requiring them to make more effort for combat readiness.

In spite of the difficult working condition, the special police officers well understand that their task is of paramount national importance.

For every officer, each assignment is an order from their senior to them.

Specially, the mission of protecting the 14th National Party Congress is their profound honor. Therefore, no harsh weather condition can reduce their vigilance, their discipline observance and their combat readiness.

Although they are out of the focus of attention and away from the crowds, these “silent shields” on the high positions are performing their duties with a high sense of responsibility for work and absolute loyalty to the Party, the State and the people. With their quiet dedication, they make an important contribution to the success of the 14th National Congress of the Party.
