Individuals and groups honored for fighting against environmental crime

PSNews – The Environmental Police Department in coordination with the Public Security’s Radio and Television Center on November 24 held a solemn ceremony to celebrate its 10th founding anniversary.

The programme aimed to honor the Environmental Police Force and to praise the collectives and individuals for their outstanding achievements in preventing and fighting offenses and violations of laws and regulations relating to environmental protection, natural resources, and food safety.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Ly, Director of the Environmental Police Department; Dr. Hoang Duong Tung, Deputy Director of the General Department of Environment under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and representatives of agencies, units, organizations and individuals with large contribution to the environmental protection cause, participated in the ceremony.

According to reports from the Environmental Police Department, in recent years, environmental pollution in the country has become a serious problem drawing much concern from the Government, people and local authorities at all levels. Environmental pollution not only caused economic losses but also negatively affected security, social order and socio-economic development of the country.

Cases violating environmental protection, natural resources and food safety, which have now been regarded as environmental crimes, have been found in business activities, production and all localities, the report said.

After 10 years of establishment (Nov 29 2006 –Nov 29 2016), the Environmental Police Force has demonstrated its key role in preventing and fighting against environmental crimes while the Force has actively promoted close and effective cooperation with relevant and agencies and authorities in protecting environment and combating environmental criminals.

Addressing the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Xuan Ly, Director of the Environmental Police Department stressed the importance of environmental protection activities, the efficient use of environmental resources and assurance of food safety.

He said these activities with great influence plays an important role in promoting sustainable development of the country and drafting guidelines and policies for economic development, national defense, security and social welfare.

All agencies and organizations, businesses and communities should see their duty and responsibility, and do good deeds to the environment, natural resources and food safety, he emphasized.

At the event, Major General Nguyen Xuan Ly has also launched an emulation movement, encouraging environmental police officers to promote accountability and responsibility, contributing to successfully fulfilling their assigned tasks.

On this occasion, 20 groups and 90 individuals have been honored for their outstanding achievements in prevention and fight against violations pertaining to environmental protection, natural resources, and food safety.
