According to the provincial Department of Health, as many as 39,592 COVID-19 cases have been detected in Binh Duong since the start of the fourth wave of infections in late April. More than 300 patients have died of COVID-19 and underlying illnesses.

Deputy Health Minister Tran Van Thuan partly attributed the surge to an extensive testing campaign which is getting underway in Binh Duong, an industrial complex hub, in an attempt to separate all F0 cases from the community.

To halt the increase in COVID-19 cases, the province plans to vaccinate approximately two million residents from now till September. It will give priority to people in the high-risk localities of Di An, Thuan An, Thu Dau Mot, and Tan Uyen Town.

In order to speed up progress in the vaccine rollout, the health department has assigned health officials to provide 100,000 doses each day.

Binh Duong has also upgraded its quarantine facility to accommodate 50,000 people, and is set to double its capacity shortly.

It will also add an additional 30,000 beds to meet the treatment demands of COVID-19 cases.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, the number of COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in local health facilities might increase to more than 30,000 in the coming days.
