Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes announces new working plans

PSNews - The Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes organized a conference on January 8 to roll out its working plans for 2019.

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security attended and delivered keynote speech at the event,

Due to direct impacts of the drug-related crime situations in the world and in the region, especially in neighboring countries, drug-related crimes in Vietnam remained complex in 2018. 

According to reports at the conference, the investigation police force on drug-related crimes nationwide in coordination with other forces investigated 24,552 drug-related cases, arrested 37,842 involved persons while seizing over 1,500 kg of heroin, 136.89 kg of cocaine, over 196 kg of opium, 254.4 kg of dried marijuana, 4.62 kg of “weeds”, 6.23 kg of ketamine, 2,500 kg of Khat leaf, and over 1.3 million pills of synthetic drug and other relevant exhibits.

Speaking at the conference, Minister To Lam recognized and praised the efforts and achievements of the police force on drug-related crimes, who contributed greatly to the current fight against drug-related crime.

Minister Lam also asked the Department to actively implement measures to cut off drug supply network and reduce the demand of drugs; coordinate with other professional units of the Ministry of Public Security and other forces to prevent and fight drug-related crimes from border gates and border areas, denying drugs from infiltrating into the country; promote international cooperation in preventing and combating drug-related crimes.

Additionally, Minister Lam asked the Department to pay attention to the force building work, ensure safety for officers and soldiers and citizens, minimizing casualties during battles against drug traffickers.
